WE ARE AVAILABLE
We started Proximity Plumbing in 2015 because we were tired of how it felt to call a plumber. The quote that moved. The four-hour window that became a no-show. The bloke who disappeared under the house and came back with a number and no explanation.
William had spent years on the tools and on big commercial sites, and he knew the work could be done properly. Emily knew how people should be looked after. So we put one van on the road, a toolbox in the back and a laptop on the kitchen table, and started from scratch.
Eleven years on, we run a fleet of more than 25 trucks and look after more than 15,000 Sydney homes, strata buildings and businesses. Our headquarters in Waverley is home to 10 support staff who answer your call, dispatch your plumber and keep you updated from the first ring to the final clean-up. We have a satellite office in Hornsby and another opening in Cronulla, so there’s always a truck closer than you’d expect.
One van in 2015. Twenty-five trucks today. Same two people running it.
We never set out to be the cheapest or the flashiest. We set out to answer the phone, turn up when we said we would, explain things in plain English, and leave your home better than we found it.
That hasn’t changed. It’s just happening 25 trucks at a time now.

Behind Proximity Plumbing are William and Emily, a husband-and-wife team raising four young kids in the Eastern Suburbs. We had all four in under four years while the business was growing, which is either brave or stupid depending on who you ask.
So we know what a weekday morning actually looks like. The school run. The washing machine that picks today of all days. The shower that runs cold five minutes before you have to leave, with four kids to get out the door. When the hot water goes at your place, we’re not imagining the inconvenience. We’ve lived it.
That’s why we built the business the way we did. A real person answers the phone, not a call centre. You get told who’s coming and when. Your home gets protected before anyone starts work. And if something isn’t right afterwards, you call us, not a 1300 number in another state.
When you book Proximity, you’re not dealing with a faceless company. You’re letting a family into your home, and we treat yours the way we’d want someone to treat ours.

Four kids in under four years has kept William and Emily busy growing a family and a business at the same time.
Co-Director
William grew up in Vaucluse with his mum. No brothers, no sisters. Even as a kid he knew what he wanted instead: a big, loud, full family of his own.
At 14 he was working at the McDonald’s on Bondi Beach. He started his plumbing apprenticeship while finishing high school at Waverley College, and at 18 he moved into Bondi on his own. Days on the tools, then most nights behind a bar in Kings Cross, working every hour he could while he paid his own way and saved. He’d already decided he would own a business one day, and nobody was going to hand him the start.
Those years taught him resilience, a serious work ethic, and how to read people at 2am. That last one turns out to be useful when you’re standing in someone’s flooded kitchen.
After earning his Certificate IV and his plumbing licence, he ran plumbing teams on some of Sydney’s biggest commercial projects, including the Barangaroo development. He learned how the best jobs in the country are run. He also learned how easy it is for the customer to turn into a line item.
So in 2015 he and Emily started Proximity with one van, a toolbox and a laptop on the kitchen table. Eleven years later there are 25 trucks behind him, and he’s still the one the team calls when a job turns out to be something nobody expected.
Today William is a director, a husband and a father of four. The big family he always wanted is real now: four kids at home, a team who feel like family at work, and thousands of Sydney households who keep calling because they know who’s coming.
From the Waverley College blazer to the Proximity polo, the values haven’t changed: turn up, work hard, tell people the truth and look after them properly.

Co-Director
Emily grew up in the Blue Mountains with her mum, her dad, two brothers and a sister, in the kind of full, noisy house where you learn early how to look after people and how to make yourself heard.
At 18 she moved to Vaucluse to chase the dream she’d had her whole life: becoming a flight attendant. She did it, joining Virgin Australia. It’s a job that teaches you how to look after people who are tired, stressed and a long way from home. That turns out to be excellent training for answering the phone when someone’s ceiling is leaking at 9pm.
She met William at a local gym, and they’ve now been happily married for more than eleven years.
The red uniform is from 2015, the year Proximity started, when Emily was still flying with Virgin Australia. The business was built in the gaps between her shifts and William’s jobs.
When Proximity started, Emily helped with the marketing. That lasted about a month before it became running everything. Today she leads our Waverley headquarters and its team of 10 support staff, oversees our Hornsby and Cronulla offices, and runs culture and growth across the business.
She did all of that while having four kids in under four years. If you’ve ever wondered how someone runs a family of six and a business of 25 trucks at the same time, the honest answer is a very good team around her and not much sleep.
If William sets the standard on the tools, Emily sets it everywhere else. She hires the people who answer your call, decides what “looked after” means at Proximity, and holds the whole team to it. The reason the first phone call feels different is Emily.

OUR PEOPLE
Plumbing is still one of the most male-dominated trades in Australia. Walk into our headquarters and you’ll see a very different picture.
The people who answer your call, book your plumber, track the job, follow up afterwards and make sure the invoice is right are, more often than not, women. They’re the reason a real person picks up the phone, and the reason you know who’s coming and when.
Emily built that team herself, and we invest in it the same way we invest in our plumbers: proper training, real responsibility and room to grow into leadership. Some of the most important decisions in this business are made by the women who run it every day.
They’re the backbone of Proximity, and we want more of them. If you’re a woman thinking about a career in plumbing, or on the business side of a trade, we’d love to hear from you.

FROM ONE VAN TO A FLEET

2015 to 2018
Built on Service and Grit

2015 to 2018
Just the two of us. One van, a toolbox and a laptop. William on the tools from dawn, Emily running quotes, invoices and the phone from the kitchen table at night. No team, no brand, no safety net.
This was the foundation stage of Proximity Plumbing.
The business was built one customer at a time, with every quote, every late-night call and every finished job carrying real weight. There was no big team behind us, just discipline, long days and a clear decision to do things properly from the very beginning.
Those early years shaped the standard we still hold today: show up, communicate clearly, leave the job better than we found it, and earn the next call through trust.

2018 to 2021
Becoming a Name People Knew

2018 to 2021
The second van. Then the first employee, which is the scariest cheque a small business ever writes. Then the first apprentice, and the realisation that we weren’t just plumbers any more. We were responsible for someone’s career.
In 2019 the Waverley Local Business Awards named us Best Plumber. It was the first time the community said out loud what we’d been hoping was true.
Word of mouth did the rest. Customers told their neighbours, strata managers told other buildings, and the reviews started to add up. The blue trucks became something people recognised on their street.

2021 to 2023
Expansion and Specialisation

2021 to 2023
We stopped being generalists. We invested in CCTV drain cameras, leak detection equipment and no-dig pipe relining, which let us fix pipes from the inside instead of digging up people’s gardens.
The office team grew to handle the phones properly, because fast plumbing is useless if nobody picks up. We opened our satellite office in Hornsby and started covering the North Shore the way we covered the East.
More strata buildings, schools and commercial sites came on board, and we built the reporting and paperwork they needed to trust us with bigger jobs.

2024 to now
Leading the Way Forward

2024 to now
25+ trucks. Three offices. 2,800+ Google reviews and Best Plumber again in 2024 and 2025, plus the People’s Choice award voted by locals.
We’re building the systems a business this size needs without losing what got us here: you call, a real person answers, and someone who works for us turns up and does the job properly.
Cronulla opens next. After that, electrical and air conditioning, so one team you already trust can look after more of your home.
4 / 4
Building this from nothing has been the best thing we’ve ever done, and it has not been smooth.
We’ve had the wins. The first strata contract, which we were almost certainly underqualified for at the time. The first apprentice, who’s now one of our best plumbers. Best Plumber at the Waverley Local Business Awards in 2019, then again in 2024 and 2025, plus the People’s Choice award, which is voted by locals and means more to us than any of them.
We’ve also had the other kind. Jobs that didn’t go to plan. Tenders we were sure we’d win and didn’t. Hires that didn’t work out. Stretches where we were running a growing business on not much sleep with four kids under four at home.
What we worked out is that none of it is really about plumbing. It’s about people. The clients who hand us their keys. The team who show up at 6am. The families behind them who put up with the late calls.
Ten years in, we’re less interested in growth charts than we used to be, and more interested in whether we’d be happy for our own kids to work here one day.
A few milestones along the way: one van, a toolbox and a laptop on the kitchen table in 2015. Our first strata contract and our first apprentice. Our 500th Google review, then our 2,000th, which we celebrated by shouting the neighbourhood coffee.
Today we run more than 25 trucks from three offices, with 2,800+ Google reviews and more than 15,000 Sydney families helped. None of it happens without the people who trust us with their homes. Thank you.

FAMILIAR FACES
No subcontractors, no labour hire and no strangers in unmarked vans. Every plumber who comes to your home is on our payroll, in our uniform and driving our truck, and you can look them up here before they arrive.
Every photo of our team on this website is one of our actual plumbers. No stock images, no AI-generated models in suspiciously clean overalls and no actors pretending to be plumbers. The person you see here is the person who’ll be standing at your door.
They’re licensed professionals, and they’re also parents doing school drop-off, mates grabbing a coffee at Rocco’s before a 7am start, and locals who live in the same streets they work in. Tattoos, bad jokes, strong opinions about the footy, all of it. We don’t dress them up for the website, because trust starts with showing you the truth.
When we pull up outside, you’ll know it’s us before we knock: a licensed plumber in a branded Proximity truck and uniform, who called before leaving so you weren’t stuck waiting around. Boots come off at the door and drop sheets go down before anything starts.
You get a proper explanation of what’s wrong, in plain English, with the camera footage or photos to show you, and a fixed price before any work begins, so you can say yes or no with the number in front of you. At the end we clean up, and your home looks like we were never there.
Want to know who’s knocking before they do? Every plumber is on our team page with their photo, their role and how long they’ve been with us.

This month, we’re proud to recognise Scott as our Employee of the Month for his outstanding performance, reliability, and commitment to excellence.
Scott continues to set the standard for professionalism on every job site. Whether tackling complex drainage issues or supporting newer team members, his calm, solutions-driven attitude and strong work ethic make him a standout.
Over the past month, Scott has consistently gone above and beyond, completing multiple high-priority jobs ahead of schedule, maintaining exceptional client feedback, and representing Proximity Plumbing with pride and integrity.
Every month we recognise one team member who goes above and beyond for our clients and for each other. It’s our way of saying thank you to the people who make the Proximity name what it is.

WHAT TO EXPECT
The same process whether it’s a dripping tap in Bondi or a collapsed sewer under a strata block in Hornsby.
1
Call us and you’ll get a human, not a queue or a call centre. Book online instead and you’ll hear back in about two minutes.
2
A licensed plumber onsite inside 30 minutes, backed by our onsite guarantee. We ring before we leave so you’re not waiting around.
3
A free CCTV camera inspection and a written report. You see the footage we see, so you’re not taking anyone’s word for it.
4
One number, in writing, before a single tool comes out. No hourly rates, no obligation, no pressure.
5
Done once, done right, with your home protected while we work and cleaned up when we’re finished.
6
We follow up after every job, and our lifetime labour warranty stands behind the work.
OUR VALUES
Every business has values on a wall somewhere. These are the four we hold ourselves to in writing, and what happens if we don’t.
CREDENTIALS
Anyone can say they’re licensed. Here’s everything we hold, what each one actually means, and where you can go and check it yourself.
If a plumber can’t tell you their licence number, don’t let them in. Ours is NSW 275278C, our ABN is 22 729 887 835 and our ACN is 606 640 215.
RECOGNISED LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY
We don’t do the job for trophies. But when the people we look after, and now a national awards program, notice the work, it’s worth sharing. Use the arrows or swipe to see more.
Reviews
4.9 / 5.0
from 2,800+ Google reviews
More than 2,800 Sydney households have written about what it was like having us in their home. We read every one, and we reply to every one.
Based on 2,800+ Google reviews
Letting a tradesman into your home is a strange kind of trust. You’re handing over your keys, your bathroom, your water and whatever’s behind the wall, usually to someone you’ve never met, often on the worst day you’ve had this month.
We don’t take that lightly, and we never have. So you get more than a repair. You get someone who tells you what they found before they touch anything, protects your home while they work, and leaves it better than they found it.
We explain what we’ve found before we start, with the footage or photos to show you. We protect your home while we work, clean up properly when we’re done, and follow up after every job, with our lifetime labour warranty standing behind the work.
We’re parents and locals too, so we know what it means when everything at home is working the way it should. If we ever fall short of that, call us. Not a review site. Us.

The Eastern Suburbs isn’t just where we work. It’s where we live, where our kids go to school, and where we queue for coffee behind our own customers.
OUR MISSION
Plumbing is not a minor trade. It’s what keeps drinking water clean, keeps sewage out of houses and keeps families safe. Done badly it makes people sick. Done well, nobody ever has to think about it.
So we treat it like it matters. We invest in our people from day one, because the standard of your plumbing is decided by the person we send and how well we trained them.
That starts with paid apprenticeships, mentored by experienced licensed plumbers rather than left to figure it out, and continues with ongoing training in specialist work like pipe relining, leak detection and gas fitting.
We also make sure our team gets real time off and a genuine work-life balance, because tired tradies make mistakes in people’s homes. We’re not interested in following the industry standard. We’d rather set it.

THE NEXT DECADE
The first ten years were about proving we could do this. The next ten are about what a modern home services business should actually look like.
Some things won’t change, however much we grow. A real person will always answer the phone. You’ll always get a fixed price before any work starts, at any hour, and our lifetime labour warranty will always stand behind the work. A midnight blocked toilet will get the same care as a large strata job.
The first ten years were about proving ourselves. The next ten are about raising the bar for everyone.
Ten years ago this was a van, a dream and a hunch that Sydney wanted a plumber built on honesty and care.
What we’re proudest of now isn’t the trucks or the reviews. It’s the apprentices who became tradespeople. The office team who treat a stranger’s bad day like it’s their own. The clients who’ve called us through three houses and two renovations and still ask after the kids.
To every client who’s called us, every plumber who’s worn the logo, and every family member who put up with the late nights: thank you. This is your story more than ours.
For our tenth year, we asked the team what the last decade has meant to them. The first jobs, the disasters, the customers they still talk about. It’s all in the video.
Watch it and you’ll see why we still love what we do: the early starts, the camaraderie on the tools and the families who’ve trusted us for a decade. It runs for just over a minute, and it says more about Proximity than anything we could write here.
However big we get, we’ll still be your local plumber.
